The filing of a disbarment case against former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is both an act of desperation and a publicity gimmick.

After accomplishing nothing in the mindless and pointless investigations supposedly in aid of legislation but which has not produced even one piece of legislation, his critics now bring the demolition job to a new venue. Just like all the orchestrated activities in the past, it will not prosper.

It is nothing but a publicity stunt given the circus that accompanied the filing. Disbarment cases are supposed to be confidential in nature but here we see a shameless emphasis on publicity.

The timing is suspicious, coming at a time when the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has its hands full fending off the people’s anger over issues of massive corruption, official abuses, incompetence, rising inflation, worsening economy and breakdown of peace and order, among others.

Why it took them nearly three years after President Duterte to file the disbarment casts doubt on the seriousness of the complainants to file the case and their motives for doing so.

This also proves the collusion between the Marcos administration and its erstwhile bitter foes among the ranks of the yellow diehards and what remains of the extreme left. After all the enmity and bitterness between them, they have a lot in common particularly the haste to bury the hatchet if they can get something out of it.

This is a sad day for all of us who appreciate and feel indebted to former President Duterte. This is not what he deserves.

I reiterate my unwavering and unconditional support to President Duterte in this battle to protect his honor, his name and his legacy.

I have no doubt about his innocence and in the belief that the charges against him will be dismissed.

I know I am not alone. I stand side by side with the millions of Filipinos who hold dearly the values of gratitude, honor, truth and patriotism.
